About Greece Lux Traveler
An independent guide to the top end of Greek travel, written by someone who works in the Greek property market and has no hotel to protect.
What this site is#
Greece Lux Traveler covers the top end of travel in Greece: the hotels, the villas, the charters, the restaurants and the islands that justify spending real money, and the ones that do not.
It is written in English for travellers coming mainly from the United States, the United Kingdom, the Gulf and western Europe, who have usually done the mainstream research already and want the layer underneath it.
Who writes it#
Kostas Taralas, founder of Greek Exclusive Properties, a high-end Greek real estate firm.
That background is the point. Two decades inside the Greek property and hospitality market means knowing which caldera hotels are built on which cliffs, which villa managers actually answer the phone in August, which marinas take which draft, and which famous names are coasting on a reputation they earned a decade ago.
It also means not needing hotels to like us.
How this site makes money#
Three ways, all of them disclosed.
Partner links. When we point you to a hotel, a charter or a transfer, the link is often a partner link. If you book through it, the company pays us a commission. You pay exactly the same price you would have paid otherwise. Every such link is marked and the page carries a disclosure at the top.
Advertising. Display advertising appears on some pages. Advertisers have no involvement in or knowledge of editorial content.
Property enquiries. Readers who become curious about owning in Greece sometimes contact Greek Exclusive Properties, our sister company. Those blocks are always labelled as ours.
What we do not do: accept payment for coverage, accept payment for ranking, publish sponsored posts dressed as editorial, or let a hotel review its own entry before publication.
How recommendations are chosen#
The order of a list reflects our judgement of the property, not the commission rate. Several of the places recommended on this site pay us nothing at all, and some of the strongest advice here - stay inland, skip the famous one, take the ferry - actively costs us money.
The full policy is set out in our editorial policy, and the commercial arrangements in our affiliate disclosure.
Corrections#
Prices move, hotels change hands, chefs leave and restrictions change. If something here is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will fix it and say that we did.
